This is a true story and part of Australian history. It is global in that it encompasses six Irish rebels incarcerated in Fremantle’s notorious penal institution, a group of Irish nationalists living in New York and Boston, and a Yankee sea captain who joined the madcap and expensive plan to rescue the Fenians and return them to the US. Why did the latter join the escapade? He had absolutely no reason to do it except that it was the right thing to do.
